Discovery Experience Transition
Extended Pathway to High School: Supporting the Transition from Stage 3 to Stage 4 (Year 6 to 7)
At Denison College, the transition from Stage 3 to Stage 4 marks an important entry into high school, supported by our Discovery, iXplore (Experience), and iXplore (Transition) programs. The extended pathway offers primary school students early exposure to high school in a graduated manner, with the purpose of easing them through this critical change.
Campus visits incorporate key staff and peer leaders who play a pivotal role in fostering belonging, resilience, and social confidence. The extended pathways program is inclusive of all students, providing opportunities regardless of their experiences in primary school. The program is comprehensive and thoughtfully planned to meet the needs of students as they approach and cross this important educational boundary, leading to a confident start in secondary education.
While every Year 6 student participates in the iXplore transition program, the Year 6 program further expands to include several inclusive streams that provide extended transition experiences for Aboriginal students and students with additional needs. These programs offer further opportunities to help students connect with their local high school and build relationships with key staff and peers who will support their educational journey into the future.
Note: The iXtend program for high-performing and gifted Year 7 students is open during the first semester of the Year 6 transition year. More information about iXtend can be found under the Learning and Support tab in High Potential and Gifted Education.
